After wrapping up the free Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts’ Crazy Good Summer show in Chicago along with Carly Rae Jepsen and Boys Like Girls, Austin Mahone stopped by B96/ Chicago to talk about how his fans reacted at the concert, which artists he should be compared to (other than Justin Bieber), and what he does when he’s at home in Texas.
While Austin was performing live onstage in front of thousands of fans, he showed off his ninja-like reflexes mid-lyric. “This girl threw a teddy bear at me, and it was weird because I wasn’t ready for it, but somehow I caught it.”
Even though this may have surprised him, eventually he’ll get used it to. This isn’t the first time he has had a crazy fan experience in Chicago. “Last year when I was here (Chicago), I got mobbed at the bean,” Austin shared. “I was like, ‘Yo, what’s up guys? Meet & Greet one hour.’ I tweeted that, and then I went there, and like a thousand girls were there. It was just me and my mom.” So, does Austin enjoy all this attention he’s been getting? “I’m starting to get used it it. I like it though, it’s fun.”
Since everyone has been comparing Austin to Justin Bieber, everyone wants to know who he wants to be compared to. According to him, Austin Mahone wants to be categorized with “no one,” but during he free time, he listens to a lot of Drake.
Even though Austin has fans everywhere now, there’s no place like home, and for him, that’s San Antonio, Texas. He describes his hometown quite simply; “It’s just lots of fields, and cows. There’s not much to do, but you got to make the most of it.”
Austin Mahone took the time to perform an acoustic version “Say Somethin’.”
He also performed his debut single “11:11” for his fans.
