After months of (unsuccessful) speculation, American Horror Story returned for its sixth season and revealed its theme: My Roanoke Nightmare.

This time around, the series is presented as a true-crime docuseries, complete with on-camera interviews of what happened in that haunted house in Roanoke, North Carolina. (Although I’m definitely getting some Blair Witch vibes.)

“This place is mine. I protect this place. I shall stop at nothing to hold safe this colony,” Bates’ character says in the promo.

Considering Sarah Paulson’s character Shelby hit Bates’ character in the premiere and she ran off into the woods, I’m going to assume she’s a ghost. Possibly from the Lost Colony, which might be the inspiration for the series.

Back in 1590 a group of settlers mysteriously vanished from Roanoke.

Here’s the insanely creepy trailer for the rest of the season:

What did you think of the season premiere? Who do you think Lady Gaga will play this time around?
