McDonald’s is putting their iconic clown Ronald McDonald on the bench.

Following the creepy clown epidemic taking over the US, the chain decided to put Ronald into hiding.

“McDonald’s and franchisees in local markets are mindful of the current climate around clown sightings in communities and as such are being thoughtful with respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events for the time being,” McDonald’s spokeswoman Terri Hickey told CNN via email.

“This does not mean that there will be no appearances by Ronald McDonald,” she continued. “But that we are being thoughtful as to Ronald McDonald’s participation in various community events at this time.”

The mascot has been around since the 60s. His job is to spread happiness and cheer at community events, hospitals and more.

Recently however, clowns have been painted in a negative light with many terrorizing people and neighborhoods in more than 30 states.
