The Chicago Police Department has released some tips to help parents and kids navigate Halloween this year.

The suburbs have set trick-or-treat hours, but in Chicago, parents are allowed to determine times.

However CPD recommends that all trick-or-treating happens in the “daylight hours.”

They also recommend that children do NOT go alone. If parents cannot accompany kids, make sure they are supervised by a trusted adult or young adult.

Wear light colored costumes so that both you and your child are visible to cars.

Try to stick close to your neighborhood and go to homes you know. Definitely stay away from building that look abandoned or deserted or just plain old creepy. No candy is worth that.

Only accept wrapped candies. Don’t take anything that is unwrapped, looks tampered with or any type of fruit.

And if you aren’t trick-or-treating, please be aware plenty of children are so drive safe and look both ways!
