While many companies are making the decision to close up shop this Thanksgiving, Macy’s is staying committed to their tradition.

In fact, Macy’s announced that it would open a whole hour earlier this year for Thanksgiving Day shopping.

The retailer is scheduled to open at 5 p.m on Thanksgiving. It will stay open till 2 am and the re-open on Friday at 6 a.m.

Expecting backlash, Macy’s released a statement saying that they surveyed store employees to see if they would be interested in working.

“We are working diligently to staff Thanksgiving with associates who volunteer,” Macy’s said. “Doing so means that our employees are able to make their own decisions about how they contribute to our most important and busiest weekend of the year.”

Thanksgiving Day and the day after, known as Black Friday, are huge shopping days but many stores have been trying to reverse the trend, despite being “very profitable.”

Earlier this month, about 42 stores announced that they would not open on Thanksgiving Day, instead giving employees time off to spend with their families.
