The Chicago flag might look a little different soon, that’s if Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke has anything to say about it.

Burke made a bold request to Mayor Rahm Emanuel, asking that Chicago add a fifth star to represent the city’s role as the birthplace of the Special Olympics.

She made the request during a breakfast fundraiser for the organization stating,  “Perhaps a fitting way to emphasize the role of Chicago in the International Special Olympics movement would be to add a fifth star, Mr. Mayor, to our flag for all the world to see and to celebrate the birth of Special Olympics.”

The Mayor was caught off guard but  later joked that he’d been given a “work assignment on his birthday.”

He didn’t elaborate further on the proposal.

The four stars on the flag currently represent Fort Dearborn, the Great Chicago Fire, the World’s Columbian Exposition and the Century of Progress Exposition.

What do you think? Should a fifth star be added?
