Shawn Mendes opened up our B96 Pepsi #JingleBash this Saturday and chatted with the J Show backstage before the show.

Although he’s from Canada, Shawn frequents Chicago a lot.

Before his performance, he revealed he was in town for about 3 days.

On Friday he did a special performance at Resurrection High School on the Northwest Side which he said was nerve-wrecking because he played for a gymnasium full of people “his age.”

But he did compliment Chicago on one thing.

“The people,” Shawn replied. “The people here are so welcoming.”

Shawn explained that he was at a gym that he visits whenever he’s in Chicago and downstairs there’s a bar where a bunch of older men began talking with him.

“Even though I’m a kid, they all started a conversation with me,” he exclaims.

Who knew someone would actually think Chicagoans are friendly?

Thanks Shawn.

Watch the interview above to find out what he thinks of not getting nominated for a GRAMMY and what it felt like to perform on SNL!
