“I know I’ll be alright, but I’m not tonight.”

Short. Simple. Honest. Thought-provoking. Those nine words are among tens of thousands written by songwriter / producer extraordinaire FINNEAS, and he told RADIO.COM they are among his favorite put on record.

The 22-year-old brother of Billie Eilish is reflecting on the lyrics he’s most proud of. The first one he mentioned is pulled from his gut-wrenching song “I Lost a Friend,” which leads off his new EP, Blood Harmony.

“There’s a lot of music or art sort of written about this forever lonely, forever sad thing,” he said. “To me in my life, it’s like ‘ooh, I’m really intensely unhappy right now, and I’m sure I won’t be in two months. But right now I’m bummed.’”

FINNEAS, who says his name just looks better in all capital letters, explains the criteria for a great lyric comes down to whether he can make a clear statement and whether it will have a lasting impact.

The second lyric he revealed to be one of his favorites comes from the chorus of Eilish’s song “idon’twannebeyouanymore.”

“If teardrops could be bottled, there’d be swimming pools filled by models, told a tight dress is what makes you a whore,” he said, reciting the line. “It’s fairly poetic and it’s not super conversational, but I like the imagery of the way – especially the way that social media handles self-loathing and self-betterment. I think they’re almost synonymous right now. People think hating yourself leads to making yourself better. And I think that’s pretty dark because I don’t think it’s true."

FINNEAS and Eilish have famously done much of their writing to date in the modest Los Angeles home they grew up in.

The man born Finneas O’Connell previously revealed to RADIO.COM the new year will feature a collaboration with Tove Lo, probably sometime before April, and his first full-length album of new music. Watch more below.
