It’s Mariah Carey season!

All Carey might want for Christmas is “you,” but in reality, she’s getting a pretty festive paycheck thanks to her holiday classic.

When the clock strikes December (sometimes sooner), the 1994 hit "All I Want For Christmas Is You" becomes unavoidable, and despite its ubiquity, gets more popular with each passing year. The earworm hasn’t just dominated the cultural zeitgeist, it continues to dominate holiday music charts – it’s already sitting at #18 on the Billboard Top 100 in 2019.

Despite Carey’s impressive and wide discography, the holiday pop tune remains her 12th best-selling single of all time and has even broken three Guinness World Records: the highest-charting holiday single by a solo artist, the most streamed track on Spotify in a day, and the Christmas song with the most weeks on the U.K. singles chart.

But it's Carey's bank account that truly benefits from the popularity of the catchy bop. In 2017, the Economist reported that the Queen of Christmas earned $60 million in royalties.

The exact yearly figure that Carey makes from the single remains under wraps, but The Independent believes that she’s making at least $500,000 in royalties every year just in the UK.

If you were to add up royalties from around the world, including the US, Carey rakes in well over a million every holiday season. That sum excludes streaming channels, which also paid Carey over 600K to stream the single. Basically, if Mariah Carey wanted to sit back and do nothing all year, she could afford it.

Since 2019 celebrates the 25th anniversary of her LP, “Merry Christmas,” which spawned the joyous tune, Carey has been capitalizing even more by re-releasing the single and embarking on the “All I Want for Christmas Is You” limited-tour. The tour runs from Nov 22 through Dec 15 and includes stops at her residency in Las Vegas and Madison Square Garden.

She truly is the Queen of Christmas.
